Joe Hand Jr.

Joe Hand Promotions
President

When Joe Hand Jr. was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 10th round of the NBA draft in 1980, he felt certain that his future would involve sports. What Joe didn’t know at the time was that, not basketball, would be the central sport in his life.

Joe was a captain of both the La Salle College High School and King’s College basketball teams, but he was never far away from the family business, Joe Hand Promotions Inc., which his father, Joseph P. Hand Sr., began in 1971 in the basement of their Philadelphia home. From a young age, Joe helped his father promote live and closed-circuit boxing events.

In 1980, Joe partnered with his father, who was recovering from a serious illness, to promote the fight between Sugar Ray Leonard and Roberto Duran. He was hooked.  Nearly 40 years later, Joe has guided his family business to become the oldest and largest commercial distributor of pay-per-view sports and entertainment events, such as the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), championship boxing, and concerts. Every day he help bars, restaurants, and other commercial establishments increase their sales by broadcasting popular pay-per-view events. The Joe Hand customer base includes thousands of sports bars, restaurants, military bases, universities, and oil rigs.

Since 2001, Joe Hand Promotions has been the exclusive commercial distributor for the UFC and has promoted or broadcasted all of its major championship fights nationwide. The company has also promoted major boxing events, beginning with Ali-Frazier and including last year’s mega-fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor.
